The island is still known for producing the purest cinnamon in the world, and Sri Lankans have been using spices in traditional Ayurvedic treatments since 2nd century BC.

Visit a working fruit and spice farm in a rural village in Matale (located between Kandy and Dambulla),an area of Sri Lanka known for its spices. Explore it with a planter, who will teach you about the various types of trees and crops and their use in traditional Sri Lankan cuisine. The produce grown on the plantation includes tropical fruits such as papaya, mango and coconut, cocoa and mahogany, as well as a wide variety of spices. This picturesque farm spans 15 and a half acres and climbs up a hill towards a mountain peak, so you can enjoy spectacular views of the surrounding landscape as you explore. Beginning with farm-sourced fresh juice and ending with an authentic Sri Lankan rice and curry lunch, this 1.5 hour guided walk is a great choice for foodies.
