Bogoda Wooden Bridge

Bogoda Wooden Bridge

Sum up

Bogoda Wooden Bridge spans the Gallanda Oya, west of Badulla, and this peaceful spot is one of the lesser-known things to see in Sri Lanka’s hill country. It was built in the 16C and is regarded as the oldest surviving wooden bridge in Sri Lanka. The bridge stands on a colossal tree trunk and was entirely constructed from wood, including wooden nails as fixing material. The roof tiles carry a striking Kandyan influence. The bridge spans the Gallanda Oya. The Bogoda Buddhist temple situated beside the bridge dates back to the 1st century BC and was built during the reign of King Walagamba.
