Canyoning in Kitulgala
Sum up
Spend three nights at Borderlands in Kitulgala, a remote area on the western edge of Sri Lanka’s glorious hills known for its adventure activity opportunities. During your stay, you will have the chance to go white-water rafting on Grade 2 and 3 rapids, go hiking through forest and rubber and tea plantations, and tackle two of the island’s most spectacular canyons.
Duration:3 nights / 4 days
Best Time: December to March, July to September
Additional Information
Your whirlwind adventure starts with an exhilarating afternoon of white-water rafting along grade 2 and 3 rapids down the Kelani river, against a picturesque backdrop of lush hills and imposing mountains, followed by dinner around a bonfire at camp. The following two days will be spent canyoning, with an afternoon at leisure on the second day. The first canyon offers stepping stones, natural water slides and the chance for ziplining, whilst the other is largely traversed by abseiling and promises astonishing views. You will drive to the first canyon in a 4×4, whilst the second canyon is accessed via a fairly challenging hike through forest, plantations and small villages. Your second night can either be spent at the main camp, or staying in a tent along the river – we recommend the latter for a truly escapist experience. All meals are included.
The team at Borderlands are all qualified guides and they use international-standard safety equipment. You will be given a thorough safety briefing before attempting each activity.
